The Jimmie Guthrie and Steve Hislop Rooms showcase the lives and achievements of Hawick’s two tragic motorcycle champions. Also - The Old Schoolroom, Nature displays, Archaeology/Geology, Gift Shop.

Exhibitions 2011 Sun 23 Jan – Mon 2 May Scotland Rocks! Front Hall A colourful and fun exhibition of fossils, rocks and geology – watch out for the Pterodactyl! Scotland’s geological journey explained – with a look down into the Earth’s interior. Showing specimens from Scottish Borders Council Museums’ collections. Sat 19 March – Sun 24 April Building Scotland Waterfall Gallery, 1st Floor Celebrating the raw materials used in Scotland’s traditional buildings with samples of each, including stone, timber, iron, clay and slate together with the tools used to shape them. The photography by a successful young Scottish photographer makes the exhibition as visually impressive as it is informative.
Sat 23 April – Fri 23 December More Photographs of Old Hawick Balcony, 1st Floor Following the success of last year’s show, more prints from Hawick Museum’s collection of glass negative plates – some never seen before – showing people, streets and buildings of the town and the surrounding area going back to the 1880s.
Sat 30 April – Sun 26 June Four 4 | Patrick & June Rafferty Waterfall Gallery, 1st Floor Passionate colour and black-and-white photography documenting 25 years of the live rock music scene. The iconography of rock music is now part of our culture and Patrick and June Rafferty here offer us powerful and engaging images from that scene, featuring performers and events – both local and from further afield.
Sat 14 May – Sun 24 July Blown Away | Annica Sandström & David Kaplan Front Hall A luminous display of beautiful objets d’art, showcasing Scotland’s premier Studio Glass workshop. The artists have been making glass at Lindean Mill near Selkirk for over 30 years, producing commissions for museums, unique artwork for collectors and tableware for the home.
Sun 3 July – Sun 28 August Different Perspectives | Win Nichol & Myra Larsen Waterfall Gallery, 1st Floor Two artists, close friends, present different interpretations of the wonderful scenery on either side of the Border, each with their own take on the beauty of the area – with some still life works too. Myra paints mainly in watercolour, though likes to experiment, while Win uses acrylics.
Sun 31 July – Sun 25 September Plant Magic | Derrick Moore Front Hall Engaging, colour photographs of wild flowers and plants found within a few miles of Hawick showing the terrain they grow in - with fascinating facts about their traditional uses and the folklore associated with them. Sun 4 September – Sun 23 October The Borders and Beyond | Sandy Jarvis Waterfall Gallery, 1st Floor A selection of landscape paintings, mainly in oil, of the artist’s recent work in the Borders area and beyond. As a keen walker, Sandy is always aware of the changing patterns of the countryside and tries to capture this in his paintings.
Sun 30 October – Fri 23 December Art Exhibition for Vision 2014 Waterfall Gallery, 1st Floor A selection of paintings and works of art with local provenance, from Hawick Museum’s permanent collection, on show for the Year of Arts, part of Vision 2014, Hawick Learning Community’s four-year project to inspire young people to be proud of, and work towards, excellence in their community.
Sun 2 October – Fri 23 December A Hundred Years of Hawick Opera Front Hall For one hundred years Hawick’s Operatic Society has delighted the town with its productions. This exhibition tells the story of Hawick Opera with a display of photographs, costumes and memorabilia.
